5 Design Mistakes That Are Hurting Your Brand (And How to Fix Them)
Your brand's visual identity is often the first thing potential clients notice — and first impressions matter more than ever in today's crowded market. After 8+ years of working with startups, agencies, and businesses worldwide, I've noticed the same design mistakes come up again and again. Here are five of the most common ones, and how to fix them.
1. Inconsistent Colors Across Platforms
Nothing hurts brand recognition faster than a logo that looks one color on your website and a completely different shade on Instagram. Always use a defined color palette with exact HEX and RGB codes, and share it with everyone who touches your brand's visuals.
2. Too Many Fonts
Using three, four, or even five different fonts across your materials makes a brand feel chaotic and unprofessional. Stick to two fonts maximum — one for headings, one for body text — and use them consistently everywhere.
3. Ignoring White Space
Cramming every inch of a design with text, logos, and graphics overwhelms the viewer. White space isn't wasted space — it gives your content room to breathe and makes key messages stand out.
4. Low-Resolution Logos
A blurry or pixelated logo instantly signals "amateur" to potential clients. Always keep a vector version (AI, EPS, or SVG) of your logo so it can be resized for any use case without losing quality.
5. No Clear Visual Hierarchy
If everything on a page is the same size and weight, viewers don't know where to look first. Use size, color, and spacing intentionally to guide the eye toward your most important message.
Fixing even one or two of these issues can make a noticeable difference in how professional and trustworthy your brand appears. If you'd like a second pair of eyes on your current brand assets, feel free to reach out — I'm always happy to help brands look and feel their best.
